This past Sunday, I met up with Emily & Nick for their Pittsburgh engagement session. For those of you who live in the area, you may recall that Sunday turned into an incredibly rainy, stormy, & windy day mid-afternoon. I’m talking torrential downpours, hail, thunder & lightning, the works… And these two lovebirds were in town from Maryland for this session that we had scheduled for 6:30pm, rain or shine.
Naturally, I spent the entire afternoon obsessively checking the radar, searching for a little hope that our evening session wouldn’t be a total washout since it would be pretty difficult to reschedule. Emily’s attitude was fantastic, however, when she excitedly emailed me earlier in the day letting me know she was getting ready for the session and was bringing umbrellas so we could embrace the weather no matter what happened. High five for all you chill brides-to-be out there!!
So as the rain poured and thunder was still rumbling, I gathered my gear, loaded the car with all the bad-weather essentials (which included my husband, who should win an award for continuously stepping in and asking if I need a hand, in this case to hold an umbrella over my head for potentially 2 hours so I didn’t fry my gear in the rain – – – looooove yooouuuu!), and we made our way up to Mt. Washington to meet Emily & Nick.
It was still drizzling when we began the session, but it was definitely manageable. Luckily there is a small overhang in the park, so we started under there first, then I planned to grab the umbrellas, suck it up, and step out into the rain. But then, out of nowhere and entirely unexpectedly, it got a little brighter, the rain stopped, and – get this – I could see the SUN for a minute! The actual sun! It went back behind the clouds after about 3 seconds, but whatever, the rain stopped and we were good to go!
So we did our thing up on Mt. Washington, then headed over to the North Shore for some evening photos by the water before calling it a night. And miraculously, after that light drizzle when we were first getting started, and despite what the weather apps all said, it never rained again that evening. Emily & Nick were so much fun to work with, were totally cool about the potential bad weather, and are super cute together if you ask me! Take a look!
